I often get text messages. Like all of us. And I get it, sending a text message from a smartphone is probably a little bit easier than sending an email.
While I can read text messages just fine on my dump phone, answering to any sensible extend is cumbersome at best. I know this is a self inflicted complication, but it’s been a conscious choice.
I do most of my communicating and social networking on my laptop. My medium of choice for private communication is email. A plain text email would be perfect! So if you can, please send me email instead of text messages. Thank you! 💚 🤗 🙏
There are some alternatives however, if you much prefer using some kind of instant messaging software on your side. There are instant messaging services which are open and decentralized and which work just fine on my laptop without any need for a smart phone. These are:
I am on matrix, installing a matrix app on your phone shouldn’t be much harder than any other app. Examples for matrix apps are Element, Cinny, FluffyChat or Nheko. My matrix handle is: @lskh:matrix.org
I’m also on XMPP, or Jabber as it’s also called. Again, installing an XMPP app shouldn’t be much more complicated than an app for email. XMPP apps are among others: AstraChat, Monal IM and Conversations. My XMPP handle is: lkh@jabber.sdf.org
There is also DeltaChat, which really is an email app in disguise. Just install it as any other messaging app and write a message to my email address. It will show up as email on my side, and look like an instand message on your side - neat!
